Lanfear Family Trees

These are the family trees that we have been able to put together. The names are taken from a town or village from which many in the family in the tree came.

Chippenham

This is a family that lived in Chippenham in the 17th and early 18th Centuries.

Dilton

Six families living near Dilton and Westbury have been located. This area has not been researched closely and so the data is not very reliable and needs more examination.

Heddington

A large family grouping whose earliest members lived in Heddington and then spread over North Wiltshire and into Berkshire.

Newport

This family was first found in Newport (South Wales) but its earliest members came from Chippenham. Some moved to Eton and Lincolnshire. It includes the couple William Alfred Lanfear and Mary Ann Hockey; more information about the Hockey family is found at Ian Hall's site

Steeple Ashton

The earliest members of this family came from Steeple Ashton.

Thanet

This family started in Wiltshire but moved to Kent.

Thornbury

This is my family. My most distant ancestor is Nicholas Lanfear, my most wanted Lanfear. I would dearly love to locate the birth of Nicholas.

Nicholas last place of residence in Great Britain was in the village of Thornbury, north of Bristol. His descendants mainly lived in and around Bristol, with some going to South Wales.

Winchester

A small family grouping from Winchester including John Lamphire, the most illustrious Lanfear in Great Britain who merits an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.

Irish Origin

Some families with the surname Lamphier or Lanphier with roots in Ireland.

Miscellaneous

Several small family groups.
