In December 1985 Harold Hayter Lanfear from the Isle of Wight sent a letter to all the Lanfears he was able to find in the UK telephone directories about his interest in tracing the Lanfear family tree. About forty people replied to his questionnaire, including my father, Terence Lanfear, and me. Since he too was curious about the family name, my father asked for a copy of the responses and Harold Lanfear kept in touch with circular letters to Lanfears at Christmas.
Several years later, my father bought a PC, and got hold of a copy of Brother's Keeper. When I was visiting my parents, I started reading through the replies to the questionnaires and found that the replies added a surprising amount to our own personal knowledge of the family. Harold Lanfear had in the mean time gathered considerably more information about the family from the GRO records, censuses and parish registers and other Lanfear family researchers which he kindly passed to us. Since then, a great deal more has been added which can be found on these pages.
