Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths began in England and Wales on 1st July 1837. The country was divided into registration districts under the control of Superindentent Registrars. Every quarter, the Superintendent Registrar passes details of births, marriages and deaths to the Registrar General in London where quarterly indexes are compiled. Over the years the subdivision of the country into districts has changed and further details have been added to the published indexes.
The lists of Lanfear births, marriages and deaths are substantially complete apart from the most recent events. It is inevitable that in such a large quantity of data, there will be errors and omissions. Mistakes are being revealed and corrected by comparing the data with the FreeBMD database.
Information on a few individuals married to a Lanfear is also included.
